While doing routine inspections around Albury’s residential houses I came across Water Hyacinth growing in tubs under a Lemon tree. The owner wasn’t home at the time and i could only see over the fence, and take some photos as it was in flower. Weed killers: Council staff stop online sale of prohibited plant

Fast-thinking members of Wagga Wagga Council’s vegetation management team have stopped a possible outbreak of a class 1 state prohibited noxious weed in its tracks. Council staff were alerted to the sale of Frogbit on eBay and after making contact with the Wagga-based seller through the site, were able to seize and destroy the dangerous plant. Hunting Hawkweed

‘Hunting Hawkweed’ is a volunteer initiative that evolved as part of a broader weed control program to hunt down a Class 1 Noxious Weed.

Since 2009, over 200 volunteers have assisted in the search for orange hawkweed across the Jagungal Wilderness Area.   Volunteers have been instrumental in surveillance and protecting sensitive environments, like alpine bogs, from the hawkweed invasion.  Surveys coincide with the peak flowering period, which makes orange hawkweed easier to detect.
